Story behind the formation of COC
Gamma Kappa Phi in Cagayan de Oro stagnated for over three years due to the Xavier University Chapter abruption in 1976. A Kappans was never heard at Xavier University, Cagayan Capitol College or any other Cagayan de Oro School campus for many years. However, occasional domestic social gatherings only happened somewhere in Cagayan de Oro by the alumni who became inactive and already focused on their jobs and families. Occasionally, alumni and new members gathered in their haven at Barangay 19, where they enjoyed social rendezvous and engaged in basketball games. On the other hand, Gamma Kappa Phi has no more active student members around school campuses and is endangered to vanish from existence if more years remain stagnant. Nevertheless, thanks to the three Kappans gentlemen at the Cagayan de Oro College (COC) campus who had been engaged in frequent meetings since their acquaintance. The story starts with Fredeswindo Jadoc (CMU-1976) meeting Jose Bagarinao (CMU-1974), who were both residents of Cagayan de Oro and had decided to transfer to COC from Central Mindanao University (CMU) to pursue their Engineering course. This follows the next story when Fredeswindo later finds Angelito Jim Jimenez (XU-1975) as another Kappans at a Christmas Party where his father celebrates their Government service occasion. Interestingly, Angelito is his father’s officemate and a working student enrolled at COC. This coincidence brought these three gentlemen together to become close buddies in their student life and socialized for their long-lasting brotherhood since 1977. As time passes, they meet the duo of Herlene Sepe (Malaybalay, San Isidro College-1976) and Virginia Pao (San Isidro College-1976). As a result, more interesting activities happened with the new Kappans band, which finally led to their decision to form the Cagayan de Oro College Chapter. However, the recruitment of new members materialized in 1979, adding the presence of Conrado Rabañes (CMU-1972) and Benjamin Canales (CMU-1976). Like Hyrlene and Virginia, both Conrado and Benjamin were also transferees to COC, whose encounters were accidental with Jose and Fredeswindo. Benjamin’s contribution to new members from his province was credited to the propagation of Gamma Kappa Phi in Camiguin. They came to their rescue and endorsed them as co-organizers. This was a giant leap in the rapid spread of members, and the Cagayan de Oro College Chapter was established as the stronghold of Gamma Kappa Phi in Cagayan de Oro during the 1980s. Following those events, the Cagayan Capitol College Chapter (CCC) was organized in 1980 by a COC product led by Raul Sabuero (COC-1979) and Ramil Antonio (San Isidro College- 1978). This was followed by other members of Liceo de Cagayan and Don Mariano Marcos Polytechnic Institute, among others. Over the past years, those mentioned schools were renamed Capitol University, Liceo University, and University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines. Notwithstanding, Angelito Jim Jimenez, as an XU, survived in 1975; he advocated the re-organization of the XU chapter in 1981 after its long-lost existence was an oversight for many years. With the presence of Reynaldo Amatong (CMU-1976), who transferred from CMU to XU, has credited his support and served him as the co-organizer. Consequently, Jim recruited his two close friends and neighbors Elden Baculio and Rolando Gironella, Jr. who were both XU students. Likewise, Rolando brought along his 12 classmates from the XU College of Engineering to become the pioneers named the XU Rennaisance batch of 1981. Gironella was responsible for his deed, recognizing him as “the Kappan who awakened the sleeping tiger.” Moreover, the highlight of the XU Renaissance batch was the presence of the late founder Fernan Maslog, who also served as the adviser and signatory of their membership certificate to the Gamma Kappa Phi.
The following profiles were the 5 organizers without the profile of Virginia Pao, whose data was not at hand. Along the profile were Benjamin and Conrado, who were endorsed as co-organizers.

Affiliated members from other chapters
Their historic advent and engagement with Gamma Kappa Phi in Cagayan de Oro was a remarkable affiliation of intimacy. These Kappans survived from other chapters, however, they are permanent residents of Cagayan de Oro, while others temporarily stayed for a long period or settled for good and became a part of the Epsilon Kappans community.
